Internationaler Gottesdienst im Darmstadtium
Glaube, der Menschen verbindet - Faith uniting people!
Last sunday 1700 Christians from various denominations and nations were
drawn to the Darmstadtium to participate in an International church
service with that specific theme. The Evangelical Alliance Darmstadt
and their Chairman Pastor Hartmut Knorr, host of the event, had the
vision as early as 2008 to conclude its annual prayer week in the
International Congress Centre. In front of a full house the Lord Mayor
gave his stamp of approval with the following words: “Your experiment
has proven a success!”
The present Chairman of the Alliance, Reverend Dr. Gerhard Schnitzspahn of
the Lutheran Johannesgemeinde, reminded those present that the unity of
believers, and love for each other should be the distinguishing
characteristic of Christendom. This thought was developed by the main
speaker, Reverend Ulrich Parzany, with a relevant, lively message. He
encouraged all the foreign churches present to work actively with their
German partners with the appeal: “We need you.”
Choirs from Korea, Nigeria & Ghana and Latin America enriched the service
with joyful and excellent musical contributions. Steve Ossar, Pastor of
an African church in Darmstadt, likened the church to a hand: “We are
like a family. One finger alone can’t hold something, just two fingers are
unsure, but when all the fingers grip, then we have strength together.”
This unity was apparent through the prayers of believers from six
different nations each leading prayer for the City of Darmstadt, Germany
and worldwide. Another sign of the united purpose was seen in the taking
of an offering for an intercultural project, recommended by city
councillor Jochen
Partsch.
During the service the children enjoyed a concert
with Daniel Kallauch and his friendly Raven Willibald. 350 excited
children heard the message of God’s love from the well known entertainer.
The initial reactions after the service were clearly a desire that this
unique event be repeated in the future. “It was great!” according to one
mother. A young father expressed his feelings so: “We want to thank the
Evangelical Alliance for this wonderful service this morning and hope
that it will be a sign for the future. I think that many would
love to celebrate in such a way together several times a year …” |
